A Roll of Film, 2022, inkjet prints, bacterial growth on negatives, inkjet on skateboards.

A Roll of Film is a series of alternative process experimental photographic prints. Photographs of skateboarding were soaked in shallow petri dishes of mold and bacteria in order to eat away at the emulsion on the surface of the film. Molding was aided with destructive processes like cutting, burning, tearing, bleaching, and skateboarding on top of. One of the photographs is a strip of multiple film negatives that were taped to the bottom of a skateboard wheel and skated on until destruction.

The work explores the destructive nature of the skateboarding process and the relationship between the participant, pain, and growth. Skateboarding is a sport that in order to succeed, the participant must undergo extreme pain and repetitive failure. I attempted to mirror that sort of approach in my art making in order to capture the heart of the extreme sport.
